FOOD - JEEVAN AAHAAR
"We only realize the importance of food when we have nothing on our plate. Maybe that is why the underprivileged value food so much"
Food is a basic necessity of life, yet there are many people, both adults and children, who have to sleep on an empty stomach because they cannot afford simple meals. In India, nearly 44 per cent of children who are below the age of 5 are underweight. 72 per cent of infants and 52 per cent of married women are anaemic. The problem became even more evident during the pandemic, which left the country with about 189.2 million undernourished people, predominantly women and children.
Amidst the grave situation of acute malnutrition that accelerated during the pandemic, The Amulya Jeevan Foundation came up with Jeevan Aahaar initiative, which aims at providing cooked food and/ or dry ration to members from the marginalised communities as well as animals, suffering from near-starvation owing to natural calamities, disruptions or a pandemic.

The Amulya Jeevan Foundation
It all began with Avinash Khemka, industrialist from Cuttack, reaching out to provide sustenance to the migrant labourers traveling along Odisha's highway during the 2020 lockdown. His inner compulsion and compassion grew in extent and intensity of support, as many around him were inspired to add momentum to the campaign. He decided to make this a continuing cause in his life and thus was born The Amulya Jeevan Foundation, a Charitable Trust
